Identity of Messerschmitt Bf 109E sought!

Hi Guys,

Found this pic of a captured Bf 109E in RAF hands but so far I have been unable to identify it? This pic plus many others found on the IWM website.
Can anyone identify this one!

Regards,

Melvin

The cowling on the ground is from Gottschalk of 6/LG 2 6 Sep 40. The other one is familiar but I am sure that someone else will quickly identify it

Could it be Uffz. M. Massmann of 7./JG3 6+I who crashed his Bf109E-1 WNr.6316 at Cooper's Field, Flimwell, Near Hawkhurst on 9th September 1940?

Re: Identity of Messerschmitt Bf 109E sought!

Thanks Chris & Clint, I think it could be the 6 + I that Clint mentions, I think there is a little bit of "cross-dressing) with the aircraft parts? I have attached the A.I.(g) report for Bf 109E W.Nr 6316 and that states the aircraft had a yellow spinner hence my comment.

Melvin

Re: Identity of Messerschmitt Bf 109E sought!

The spinner has been removed at some point because the front removable part does not line up with the backplate. It needs to be spun clockwise to the next prop to be correct. Clearly evidence of some meddling with the spinner assembly.

Re: Identity of Messerschmitt Bf 109E sought!

Hello,

Yes, Clint is right, this is Uffz Matthias Massmann's White 6+I, W.Nr. 6316, originally down at Cooper's Field, Flimwell, near Hawkhurst, Kent, on Sept. 9, 1940. Massmann was taken PoW.

Regards,

Larry
