Grossetto

Does anyone know what was the correct designation for the Luftwaffe Torpedo School at Grossetto?

Re: Grossetto

Chriss that's look strange but the unit seems not to hv any other name than KSK 2, till end 41 there was a Torpedoschule Grossenbrode that moved at that time to Grosseto...

Arrow Re: Grossetto

Just to add that the KSK 2 has been established in Grossenbrode in oct 41 so before the transfer to more sunny skys. the Lufttorpedo schule was then beg. of 42 renamed in " Flieger Waffentechnische Schule 3" but just for the part of unit remained at Grossenbrode ???

Re: Grossetto

Remi and all. I think this is it. Grossenbrode was the Torpedoschule der Luftwaffe which was moved in Oct 41 to Grosetto and renamed KSG 2. In Mar 43, renamed KG 102 and in Jun 43 moved to Riga. This explains why so many of the LT aircrew shot down over the Normandy Beaches were trained at 'Riga' as opposed to Grossetto. It also explains why Hptm Ernst Thomsen, St Kap of 2/KGr 506 became I Gr Kdr of KSG 2 before going to take command of III/KG 26 (formed from KGr 506) in May 42 (only to be injured in an accident in Jul 42)
