Karl Heinz Weber?

I was looking through J. Prien's JFV 12/II on page 151 for the 14 Jul 1943. It has 10./JG 51 Uffz Karlheinz Weber La 5 (20) 18:40, Il 2 (21) 18:49, Il 2 m.H. (22) 18:51 & LaGG 3 (23) 18:53. Okay now Tony Woods list has for the same date, times and aircraft for Wilhelm Weber 10./JG 51. There is a Oblt Karl-Heinz Weber 7./JG 51 also making a claim on the 14 Jul 1943. So who is really suppose to be making these claims?

Re: Karl Heinz Weber?

AFAIK Tony Wood worked from a source where the first name of the pilot was not available, and completed them using other sources. When the name is common (Weber, Müller, Brandt, etc...) he sometimes chosed the wrong one.

As for choosing a source, Prien is the most up-to-date, and is based on the same sources than Tony Wood and many others. It is also the output of a professional team mainly dedicated to the effort, while Tony's file were produced as a hobby by a single man. I bow at him for doing that, and providing access to Luftwaffe claim data at a time when there were few data available, but today Prien is far more complete, and is more reliable.

Re: Karl Heinz Weber?

So Uffz Karlheinz Weber 10./JG 51 is the one making his 20th-23rd victories but Oblt. Karl-Heinz Weber 7./JG 51 was claiming his 65th victory on the 14 Jul 43. So is there a Wilhelm Weber in the 10./JG 51?

Re: Karl Heinz Weber?

Hi

There were two Karl-Heinz Weber's at exactly the same time. Uffz Karl-Heinz Weber(born 1923) of 10./Jg51 had thirty-one confirmed claims between 8th June 1943 and 20th September 1943, so as good as his more famous namesake. He was killed on 22nd September 1943. There would appear to be no Wilhelm Weber. The best way to fing the fornames is through the losses!

Regards

Johannes

Re: Karl Heinz Weber?

Johannes,

The Held and Aders history of JG 51 lists an Uffz. Willi Weber of the III Gruppe, KIA/MIA/died 16.10.44 who had a single victory chalked up.

Can anyone shed any light...?
