Re: Missing Fw 190 pilot found in Normandy
Hello,
Great discovery, but do archeology with a backhoe ....... this is not very serious. You can also explore the pyramids with dynamite .... Belle découverte mais, faire de l'archéologie avec une pelleteuse.......c'est pas très sérieux. On peut aussi explorer les pyramides avec de la dynamite.... |

Hello Archéavion
Is backhoe a 'binette' in French? Some basic rules weren't followed (crops still there, dig above wreckage, too many watchers, etc.). Critics are easy but I recognize this isn't archaeology, me firstly for 15 years. Who makes archaeology in aircraft recovery? It is sad this pilot wasn't identified. ClinA-78 |

Highly unprofessional, even for amateur wreck recovery. If this pilot remains unknown, than this kind of dig is one of the reasons why.

But it is maybe not too late if they ask the help of the ANSA (Association Normande du Souvenir Aérien). Fredo |

I think Zorglub on this forum was one of the organisers of this dig, and he may have some comment to make?

Re: Missing Fw 190 pilot found in Normandy
I think it is for those involved with the dig to explain or comment on the methodology.
As for the pilot, there exists the possibility that he may not be 'missing' even if remains have been found? Possibly he already has a grave? Who he might be is still the question, though. |

I recognize some French 'pointures' at the dig

Re: Missing Fw 190 pilot found in Normandy
Whatever is said here , no comment .
Just...the " amateurs " were involved in DigWW2 and Spit XII recovery , and more . Some have hundreds of digs under the belt . We have many more projects here . About the possible missing pilot , if identified , this will be posted here AFTER attempt to trace the family by the German authorities . Nothing more to say . |
