Battle and Nickle loads
Gents,
Can anyone tell me please how propaganda leaflets were dropped by the Battle? Were they held in the wing bomb bays and dropped in the conventional way, or dropped by hand ? I am researching the Nickel raids of No.218 Squadron, the squadron Battle's carried between 15 - 18 bundles per sortie. Anyone ?? Regards Steve

Re: Battle and Nickle loads
Hi Steve,
There are the well known 64 lbs "Nickle" (Leaflet) bomb and the so called Monroe bomb (US). I dont know whether these were also dropped in the early years. It is more possibly this was dropped by hand at this time. Rgds, René |

Re: Battle and Nickle loads
They were dropped by hand in bundles, each with with a loose band, expectation was that the band would work free on descent.
Important to remember that the leaflets were not primary objective, which was recce - mainly of rivers. All best Iain |
