Destroyed JU 88?
My dad was a mechanic with RCAF 403 Wolf Squadron
Here's a picture from my dad's album with no caption. I'm thinking a JU 88. It looks like somebody used it for target practice. Two of my dad's crew can be seen standing by the wreck. I don't think there is anything that could identify this plane or the location. Cheers, Kickinghorse |

Re: Destroyed JU 88?
Hi, Kickinghorse...
This is indeed a Ju88's forward fuselage, having suffered some considerable damage. The gentleman on the right of the photo has his hand resting on the forward fuselage, and just above his hand, on the canopy, can be seen a small circular opening. This was for a forward-firing machine-gun. May indicate a bomber version, but as the forward nose (glazed or metal) is apparently missing, it's rather difficult to confirm especially with Ju88s, as I'm sure many would have been field-modified. Behind the same man, is a solid metal nosecap in a light colour, reminiscent of the C-series heavy fighters or possibly even a G-series night-fighter. Regards, Paul |
