Dornier?

My dad was a mechanic with RCAF 403 Wolf Squadron
Here's a picture from my dad's album captioned "Dornier".
Two of my dad's crew can be seen standing by the first plane. I think there is also somebody else in the second plane.

Can anyone identify these planes and identify a location where this picture was taken?

both planes are Junkers Ju 88 A-4. The kite in front is still wearing it's factory code RG+XD.

Hi,

That is a Ju 88A-4 WNr. 300367 RG+XC, my last documented flight for this aircraft was with Junkers repair shop at Villacoublay on 30.07.44.

I would assume the aircraft was left at Villacoublay when the Luftwaffe had to leave that area.

many thanks for posting your fathers photos !

I know a German Veteran. He was a Luftwaffen Mechanic in WW2. After a short time of POW he went to Fassberg airfield with a bicycle and get some elctrical parts from Ju88´s away.
At his third visit there he was captured by Britisch Airforce soldiers and they get all stolen parts away and arrested him for some hours.
Maybe your father was at that time nearby.

I get a little Ju88 switch from him for my collection.

Hi all,

This Ju 88 A-4 (300367) "RG+XC" was certainly not left behind at JFM-FRB Villacoublay. There is list of those left behind in TNA RAF CREA files and this number (300367) is not amongst these. I also have many W.Nr.s of them in repair for JFM-FRB GL before, early May 1944, and this indeed was amongst those, and furthermore most (but not all) of these test flown before early August 1944, were not left behind.

This one, A-4 300367 built by Henschel, had been with II/KG 6 at Larissa (Greece) but (20% Er) damaged 15.10.43, next known the fuselage was reported at Levallois (repair/storage) for the JFM-FRB Villacoublay on 03.05.1944 - Known Ein-FT- und Kursst-Flug at Villacoublay 30.07.44 [Pilot Lorbeer; in logbook BM Erich Krauße]

What you at seems fail noticing is the single colour Green on upper surfaces and simplyfied fuselage cross (only white). This (I belive) was painted in French colours. Also dive brakes are not installed (as around the time it was built, these were no longer fitted).
It appears too it is lacking certain internal items, no (FuG 10) HF antenna under the fuselage left side, and may have seen little service since leaving France. (Possibly was held in Reserve or as trainer). I think this photo belongs with most the others and taken in Fassberg area. Note the He 177 like wings in foreground.

First of all thanks a lot for so kindly sharing the pictures from your father's collection! They are invaluable! As your father/403 Sq RCAF were stationed at Belgian airfields such as Melsbroek, would you be so kind to check for any pictures in your father's collection of the famous "camouflaged barn/building"-hangars?

was found on Melsbroek or possibly another Belgian/Northern French airfield rather than on a Dutch airfield as Getty claims.
