JG27, late September 1942

Does anyone know where in the Western Desert JG27 was located in late September 1942? I suspect it was somewhere near El Alamein.

Re: JG27, late September 1942

Chris,
Sorry, don't know the Gruppe. I do know that Anton Woffen was a pilot in the Staffel I'm interested in - if that helps.

David,
In addition to the above, I did not get the article from Jägerblatt but Russell Guest (Australia) kindly sent me an account from a Memoir by Anton Woffen, though I don't know when that was written. I would appreciate a copy of the relevant article (Jägerblatt, issue 8/1984, if you are willing to email.

Incidentally, my current search relates to an article I wrote for FlyPast a year ago ("Desert Encounter" August issue,, 2012). While researching that piece I received help from Forum members in the UK, USA and Germany and now Australia can be added to the list - which is a rather long-winded way of saying what a great forum TOCH is!. Here endeth the Lesson.

Re: JG27, late September 1942

Bill,

I have the 6 editions of Jaegerblatt for 1984 in front of me but there is no 8/84.

6/84 is December's edition.

I could check each page by page but perhaps you could clarify which edition the article is in,

all the best,

David

Re: JG27, late September 1942

David,
Thanks for looking. I wonder, would 8/1984 refer to August (8th month)?

Thanks, David. That is very useful. By the way, any luck with 8/1984?

Re: JG27, late September 1942

Unfortunately the magazines weren't issued monthly, they averaged between 6 - 8 copies issued a year.

If you are sure it was 1984 then i'll go through them individually and see if I can find the article,

cheers,

David

David,
I do appreciate your help.
Re. 08/1984, I can only say that the information was provided by a TOCH member - other than that....

Re: JG27, late September 1942

Bill,

I have found the 4 page article, it was in the Feb/March edition of 1984.

I will photograph the pages and send them to you as an email attachment.

I am on working and on permanent call out this weekend, so I'll get it done when I get a few minutes spare,

all the best,

David
