Buying Offline Bundesarchiv Photos

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to order photos from the Federal German Archives that are not online, but of which you do know the photo ID number of? And is it expensive?

Regards,

Peter

Re: Buying Offline Bundesarchiv Photos

Hi.

This information is readily available on the Bundesarchiv website. May seem a bit on the expensive side with regards to building a private collection, but for use in publication quite reasonable in my opinion.

Regards,
Andreas B

All photos are free and are in Public Domain on Wikipedia.

Re: Buying Offline Bundesarchiv Photos

Post No.3: From my experience, the Bundesarchiv photos suitable for publishing (i.e., resolution 300 dpi) are not free and not in public domain. However, the question here, in post No.1, was how to order the Bundesarchiv photos that are not scanned and uploaded online (meaning, not all the photos that the Bundesarchiv has in its collection can be found on its website). My suggestion is to contact them via e-mail directly, specifying the photos you wish them to scan from their microfilms or other media.

Re: Buying Offline Bundesarchiv Photos

I should have added that I don't intend to visit the archives. Should I contact the Selke company?

If I thought the BA website was crystal clear, I wouldn't have asked the question...

Why don't you just contact them via the form found on their website here https://www.bild.bundesarchiv.de/cxdcsynd/contact , from my experience they actually respond.

Re: Buying Offline Bundesarchiv Photos

I think the biggest issue is that there are no public finding aids for the photos available at Bundesarchiv, so you either have to go by yourself or pay a local researcher.

Sidney,

Yes, I sent them a message. I thought this might be quicker.

Thanks all.
