4/Trop JG27 - v- 601 Sdn El Hamman 9/42
Ref my previous threads re Werke No.Plate for Bf 109F - 8703
Now researching Ofw Herbert Krenz 4/Trop JG 27 'Missing' 15k S. of El Hamman 1/9/42 I have, with some help researched the day book records for 601 Sqn RAF on 1/9/42 from the National Archives which states the Sqdn engaged 34+ 'Me's 109' & '48+ Stukas' in the area of El Hamman (which as previously stated is 15k N. of where Ofw Krenz was reported 'Missing' that day). 601 Sqdn claim 2 ME 109 'Kills and 1 Me 109 'Probable', with one 601 Sdn Spitfire making a forced landing (following action) at El Hamman. The day book records do not however give any location details for these engagements but it does state that in one of the Me 109 'kills' (by 655109 Sgt Pilot Watts, D.V.) that he observed both wings break off one of the Me 109's before it dived into the ground in flames. Would anyone please know if there are accessible equivalent records for JG 27 that might give further details of this combat action and if so, how I might get a look at them. Many thanks Pete |
