Sgt. Albert Edgar “Arthur” Marsland - 1214303 (RAF 49 sq.)
Dear all,
At the moment I research the crash of the 49 squadron Lancaster JB545 who crashed on the night of 16/17 December 1943 near a little Dutch Hamlet called Oldetrijne. The Flight Engineer on this flight was Sgt. Albert Edgar “Arthur” Marsland. Sadly his name, rank, en his serial (1214303) is the only think i know. En that he was from somewhere in Great Britain I hope someone here could help with some additional about Albert. After the crash he en the other crewmembers where buried at the Cemetery at Wolvega, The Netherlands. |

Re: Sgt. Albert Edgar “Arthur” Marsland - 1214303 (RAF 49 sq.)
If you search on freebmd.org.uk
there was one man named Albert E Marsland born in 1921 in East Retford district England. mothers maiden name was Ruskin. I would think that your airman was this chap. Not a popular surname. His parents might then be Charles and Dorothy. And he may have had a twin brother! You would have too buy his RAF service file to be sure. Were there any RAAF or RCAF on board?

Hello,
For starters, take a look here: http://static.awm.gov.au/images/coll...25_002--1-.pdf See: p.152 of 236. The pilot, P/O Ratcliffe, had competed three ops. The crew were on their first op. The letters after Ratcliffe's name (A.T.C.L.), indicate he was an Associate of Trinity College of Music, London. Col. Last edited by Col Bruggy; 22nd May 2014 at 11:37. |
