Ju 88 belly landed at Athens-Eleusis on 25 May 1941

Hello,

I am searching for informations about the Junkers 88 that belly landed at Athens-Eleusis on 25 May 1941 such as its unit, the reason of this belly landing, indentity of the crew, werknummer, stammkennzeichen or tactical code.

Here is a photo of the aircraft with the Potez 650 n°11 of GT II/5 that carried the mechanics of GC III/6 to Syria : http://www.bibert.fr/Joseph_Bibert_f...s/image023.jpg

Regards

Alfred

No suitable crash on that day. However, this might fit:
1941-05-24, 4.(F)/121, Ju 88 D-2, 880846, Athen, Bruchlandung. Bruch 25 %.

I think you are right Matti at least for the unit as the French pilots mention to have met a reco pilot they had shot down during the Phoney War and had a dinner with him after downing him. During their stopover at Athens, the german pilot lead the French in a tour in Athens' night clubs.

For the day my date is maybe not exact

Anyway thank you, it's much appreciated

Alfred

Re: Ju 88 belly landed at Athens-Eleusis on 25 May 1941

It can't be a KG54 Ju88 because on May 25th 1941 I & II./KG54 were stationed in France and III./KG54 was dissolved at that time.

But I think I can see a narrow colored band on the front of the engines. KG51 Edelweiss used to apply such markings so this might be a KG51 a/c.

Regards,
Rudi.
