Fg Off Johnny Topham 219 Sqn

Does anyone have a copy or transcript of his 14-15 Jun 41 combat? Details are confused-some say it took place north of Worthing, off Littlehampton or that he got the He 111 that crashed at Guestling (but which matches with Hobbis' kill). Any guidance appreciated

Re: Fg Off Johnny Topham 219 Sqn

Hello Chris,

Topham´s Combat Report for this particular night is hand-written. In the statistical part the Place of attack (H) is given as "North of Worthing", but the Enemy Casualties (K) states "one destroyed in sea".

The relevant part of the narrative does not provide more details, I´m afraid (if I could decipher it correctly):
"...As I finished my burst the E/A dived steeply + turned to starboard through 180 degrees, my operator reporting that it was leaving a trail of white specks behind it. I turned about but did not see E/A again.
I searched around for some minutes for E/A before returning to Tangmere Control, who vectored us back to base."

If you let me know your e-mail address via pm, I will be pleased to send you the copy of the report.

Hope this helps a little,

Ota

Will PM you my email. This is very useful as his CR is not available on the NA site and what you have said already confirms without doubt that Hobbis shot down the Schmidt crew from 1/KGr 100 and Topham got Schnürpel of 3/KGr 100
