Bf 109G-2 WNr.10488
Can somebody shed some light on the twofold history of Bf 109G-2 WNr 10488?
One from Aug'42 to Aug'43, starting with 4./JG 53 and leading over 2.(H)/14 to the Regia Aeronautica. Here from 84a Squadriglia over 70a Sqa to 73 Sqa with latest news being repaired at Furbara MSA. The second (overlapping) career would be with the Finnish Airforce as MT-220 from 10-05-1943 on to 27-06-1943, when it was lost over the Eastern Front. Is the WNr of MT-220 incorrect or is the Regia Aeronatica career wrong? Afaik the first Finnish batches consisted of repaired Bf109s. Thx in advance for your input! Regards RolandF |

Re: Bf 109G-2 WNr.10488
The a/c was salvaged by Lz.4/108/trop between 21.01. - 31.01.1943 with 25% damage, then transported to Erla VII Antwerpen, repaired there and then flown between 21.04. - 30.04.1943 from Antwerpen to Erding from Überführungskdo./ LzGr. Belgien/Frankreich.

Re: Bf 109G-2 WNr.10488
Thanks a lot Rasmussen,
this would exclude the use by 2.(H)/14(22.03.43 Schaden nach technischen Mängeln Tunis). But the question arises: Was Wnr.10488 delivered from Erding to Finland (10.05.1943) or to Foggia (18.05.43)? Regards Roland |
