Crashlanded Spitfire I . The serial seems to be N31XX and a white "O" or "D" is visible.

I was thinking F/L D.G.Gribble, N3103, 54 Sq, May 25,1940. Even though FCL I has this as P9388.

Spitfire (Morgan/Shacklady) has the following: "N3103...39 9MU 23-10 54S 10-12 FTR ops 25-5"

Looks like N3290 GR-U. Other shots show it on grass and the fuselage burnt out in a similar way.

Gribble'S Spitfire was one of 2 which landed on the beach with undercarriage down. I will admit that the houses in the background appear too clear & possibly modern?

I'll go with N3290. On second look, the second digit looks like a "2".

Definitively N 3290. Armed with the serial number, I found a picture of the other side

Agreed N3290. The image as first posted showed signs of interference so I dismissed it & looked no further I'm afraid.

23 May 1940 92 Squadron, Hornchurch Spitfire N3290. Damaged in combat with Bf110s of II./ZG76 during offensive patrol and belly-landed near Saint-Martin-Boulogne and burned out 6.07 p.m. Possibly one of those claimed by Uffz Karl Huber of 6./ZG76. Flying Officer J. Gillies captured. Aircraft QJ*U a write-off.

As a postscript, here's another picture of N3290. It has the open radio hatch(?), the visible "2" and the letter "U". It looks like it has been moved, with the wreck of another Spitfire I in the foreground
