Mission 103,July 30th,1943
Gentlemen,
On page 26 on "Checkertail Clan" by Ernest R. McDowell and William N. Hess,there was a big encounter over southern Sardinia between USAAF P-40s and Me-109s and MC-202s. It ended up been over 30 Me-109s with only one P-40 loss. It was said in the book that a new Gruppe with inexperienced pilots that took the worst loss. What new Gruppe? I have a big doubt about this action. The Jagdwaffe would have never suffered high losses like that in a single action. Sincerely, Edward L. Hsiao
