Re: Unkown WDAF Hurricane
Not much help, but "RS" was actually to code for 30 Sqn. not 33 Sqn.

Re: Unkown WDAF Hurricane
Hello,
two losses for a beginning - 30 Sqn - 1942 - Z4418 - P/O. F.A.Scott KIA on 4th Jan. ( This is correct - P/O Frederick Arthur Scott 30 Sqdn 4th January 1942, RAFVR . The other P/O. Frederick Arthur Scott, 37 Sqdn. 2nd July 1942, RCAF ). P/O. G.W.Ratlidge D.F.C, MIA on 12th Jan. Squadron moved to Ceylon in March. Alex
I am a bit curious what source you use stating Z4418 was lost on Jan 4th with Scott? It is not in the MAW vol 1 book and it is listed as going to 1 SAAF only in Air Britain's serial booklet. Since Scott's body was picked up from the sea, I doubt his unfortunate fate has something to do with the actual photo. B Rgds Stig |

Re: Unkown WDAF Hurricane
Hello,
For P/O F.A. Scott, Try MAW1/422 (Sunday, 4 January 1942). Alex, The 30 Squadron "F.A. Scott" was RCAF, not RAFVR. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/1282480/ Col. |

l never mentioned Hurricane I Z4418! The following reference does: Appendix 3: Roll of Honour. SCOTT, Plt. Off. Frederick Arthur (J5225) + 4th January 1942. Missing in action in Hurricane Z4418 (Buried at sea by Royal Navy). See: Flat Out The Story of 30 Squadron Royal Air Force. Hamlin,John F. Re: Unkown WDAF Hurricane
Hello Col,
Thanks for correction, yes I had the RAFVR and RCAF mixed up it was the other way around. Also "85 Years of SAAF" has the following for Z4418. Z4418 - 1 - SOC 15-1-42. Alex |
