HelloCan somebody help with my enquiry ?? There are discrepancies at the data of one Luftwaffe loss.September 11th, 1940, Heinkel 111 H-3 (work no. 5606, code V4+FA) Stabsstaffel/KG 1 Hindenburg Who has shot down this airplane and where it has fallen away ???shooting by 303 Sqdn-. P/O Frantisek (source: F.K. Mason/Battle over Britain)?shooting by 66 Sqdn P/O Bodie and Watkinson -- (source: The Battle of Britain then and now)? or shooting by 74 Sqdn F/L Freeborn -- (source: The Battle Of Britain Then And Now)?Which source is correct ??Fall place: Does Camber or Horsham sew?Can somebody give me more information about this day and use of the Stabsstaffel of the KG1 unit from 1939 to 9-11-1940?(I know the day reports from the internet) Furthermore I am interested in the history of the British pilots, too.I am grateful for every note.Kind greetingsKaydet51

Also Blitz Then & Now Vol.2:

Stab KG1 Heinkel He111H-3 (5606). One engine disabled by AA fire over London during sortie to bomb Commercial Docks, other engine disabled by fighter attacks over the coast. Believed that shot down by Pilot Officer A. B. Watkinson and Pilot Officer C. A. W. Bodie of No. 66 Squadron. Probably also that attacked by Flight Lieutenant J. C. Freeborn of No. 74 Squadron. Forced-landed on Broomhill Farm, Camber 4.30 p.m. and set alight by crew. Lt Otto Behn and Fw Johannes Sommer captured unhurt. Uffz Paul Moeck, Uffz Gerhard Arndt, and Gefr Martin Männich captured wounded. Aircraft V4+FA a write-off.

Hello Peter, many thanks for your message and thank you for the ex cellent image. Is this the aircraft V4+FA? Are you sure ? Because Uffz. G. Arndt is my uncle. I am seaching for further informations, who was involved on this day in this combat? What do you think about the different crash sites? I am a little bit confused about this fact. Probably do you have further concret records about that?Kind regardsRainer

Re: Heinkel loss at 11th September 1940

Hello Rainer,

The photo is of V4+FA - your uncle's aircraft. The crash site was recorded by the East Sussex Police as 'one mile north of Camber, one mile west of the Camber road at East Guldeford.'

Another He111 V4+RW of 6./KG1 also came down in the same field the same afternoon. The crews were all taken prisoner by troops from the Royal Irish Fusiliers.

You can ignore all reference to 'Horsham' with regards to this incident. Frank Mason simply got it wrong.

Hello Peter thank for your confirmation.I am very pleased with this message.I will go to England/Camber ( in memory to my uncle) and make some photos in Septembers on this occasion of anniversary. .Perhaps I therefore find contemporary witnesses. Again many thanks. Kind regards. RainerUnfortunately, I have only a picture on into civilian and a photo of the airplane I assume that this airplane is the V4+FA.Furthermore I own a photo of him (very dark) from the early years of the KG152 Hindenburg (mixed unities) in front of Heinkel He-45 yet, however You are interested, tell it to me if.
