Gents,
Does anyone know of an officer list for Nachtschlachtgruppe 2 (N.S.Gr. 2)? Regards, Ian |

Re: Nachtschlachtgruppe 2 (N.S.Gr. 2) Officer list?
Successive Kommandeure in the west were Major Müller, then Maj. Robert Rohn (late 1944–accidentally shot by sentry in late March or early April 1945). The IA, Hptm. Gustav Weber took over (temporarily?), then Hptm. Denker.
Other officers who became casualties include: Obltn. Hans Kolb (1./NSG 2), Ltn. Wilhelm Hoch (Stab), Ltn. Wolfgang Schäfer (1.). You could probably find more names in Christian Möller's book. |

Re: Nachtschlachtgruppe 2 (N.S.Gr. 2) Officer list?
Thanks Nick,
I found those officers in Larry's "Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries" and I have Herr Möller's book in the post....didn't realise he also wrote "Das letzte Aufgebot der deutschen Luftwaffe" as that is an area of my research, however the Staffel I was interested in was not really recorded in his book. Just wondered if there was a known Staka/Stafü list anywhere but will await the book arriving.... Regards, Ian |

Could I ask your source for this date? I have never been able to establish exactly when he was shot but I note that there was an Ultra message dated 24 March from the Kommandeur of NSG 2 but on 5 April it is the Deputy Kommandeur who made a report. Also, it was the Kommandeur who reported on the strafing attack at Lippe on 14 March. The order was given that day to move to Kirtorf. NSG 2 reported on a survey of Bracht, Kirchgoens and Ziegenhain on 22 March because of problems with Kirtorf. (Rohn is said to have been shot while surveying an airfield but then the NSG 2 Kommandeur makes another report on the 24th). NSG 2 moved Eschwege on 28 March and Rohn is buried at Bad Hersfeld which is midway along the road from Kirtorf to there. Last edited by Nick Beale; 15th March 2017 at 17:22. Reason: Typos. |

Re: Nachtschlachtgruppe 2 (N.S.Gr. 2) Officer list?
Rohn was shot by a member of Hitlerjugend on the 12th of March 1945 because he did not stop when he was challenged by the guard. Rohn died at the hospital in Bad Hersfeld on the 8th of May 1945 due to complications after the gun wound

Larry's "Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries" has:

NSGr. 2 (to 12.03.45). 02.01.45 appt permanent Kdr. NSGr. 2 (to 12.03.45). 12.03.45 said to have been accidentally shot by a Hitler Jugend (Youth) patrol and died in the Bad Hersfeld hospital of his wounds on 08.05.45. /Ian |

Date and place of burial are given by the Deutsche Volksbund für Kriegsgräberfürsorge. The bit about Rohn's service in NSG 9 is probably derived from my book on the unit. What I had about Rohn, I pieced together from various Bundesarchiv files, signatures on casualty reports and logbooks, aircrew memories and letters, plus reports on prisoner interrogations. |

Re: Nachtschlachtgruppe 2 (N.S.Gr. 2) Officer list?
Page 275-276: Die Einsätze der Nachtschlachtgruppen 1, 2 und 20 an der Westfront von September 1944 bis Kriegsende.
Christian Möller Fliegerhorst Kirthof. On March 26, 1945, Major Rohn reported to the 15 Air Force Division that 130 bombshell crates had to be filled for the provisional runway.... Later, Major Rohn reported that the next day he would explore two airfields for immediate occupancy. Probably it was the Fliegerhorst Hessisch Lichtenau (20km southeast of Kassel) and Altefeld (51km southeast of Kassel). In the night or early morning hours of the following day a tragic misfortune occurred: the commander of the NSGr. 2 Major Rohn, was shot at the airport by the patrol service (Streifdienst) and was badly wounded. According to statements from the former group, Major Rohn pulled up with an American "Booty" Jeep and disregarded a stop command, whereupon the airfield guard shot in accordance with orders. He died in Lazarett Bad Hersfeld (53km southeast of Kassel) on 8.5.1945 and was buried. From the Volksbunde: Robert Rohn rests at the war graveyard in Bad Hersfeld. Final grave: Block D Grave 41 Surname: Rohn First given name: Robert Rank: Major Date of birth: 22.10.1906 Place of birth: Wermgitten Death/Missing Date: 8.5.1945 Place of death/missing place: not listed /Ian |
