Circus 217, September 7th 1942
On this day 302Sq claimed one a/c destroyed. It must have been around 11.40h off the Dutsch coast.
Does anyone know who the 302Sq pilot was and did he give a more precise location? Thanks in advance, Dennis |

Re: Circus 217, September 7th 1942
Hello Jerry and Artur,
Thank you for your fast reply's. I'm looking into the loss of Lt Karl Endrizzi, 4/.JG.1. He was lost in combat with bombers and fighters. Sources speak of Northwest of Leiden and 15 km west of zandvoort, both locations are a long way from Dover. Perhaps he was shot down by bombers of the 97th and 301st bombing groups. They were attacking Rotterdam that day. 133, 308 and 402 sqadron all claimed one damaged. 10./JG.1 also lost a fw190 near Nieuwkoop. It's not getting clearer ![]() Dennis |

Re: Circus 217, September 7th 1942
The Poles from Northolt Wing (302., 306., 308. Sqn) almost certainly fought with III./JG 26 over Channel. They lost one Spitfire (P/O Tadeusz Zdzitowiecki bailed out and was rescued by ASR) and one damaged (Sgt Ignacy Czajka wounded, belly landing in England) – both from 302. Sqn. P/O Zdzitowiecki was almost certainly shot down by Uffz. Alfred Niese from 9./JG 26. It isn’t clear whether Poles also fought with JG 1 or not.
There were also claims from 133. Sqn (0-1-0) and 402. Sqn (0-0-1). I found information that Lt. Karl Endrizzi from 4./JG 1 was shot down during the attack on American bombers’ formation by gunners from B-17’s. Is it true – I don’t know. |
