605 Sqn vs IV/KG 30, 21 September 1943
Hello,
I have in my files two Ju 88 of IV./KG 30 lost on 21 September 1943 over the Skagerrak and listed as being shot down by 605 Sqn RAF. No other details as crew names or fate, or serial of the AC. The site 'Airwar over Denmark' had nothing about these losses, but it may be cause they were lost at sea and no body was washed on Danish shores. I would like to have more details about these two losses. Thanks in advance Laurent |

Re: 605 Sqn vs IV/KG 30, 21 September 1943
Both were claimed by the same Mossie - DZ717 UP-O (one source says UP-C) of 605 Sqn, crewed by F/L Dave Blomeley and F/O Jock Birrell. First claim at 1236 hours - single burst fired and the Ju went straight into sea, west of the entrance to the Skagerrak. Second at 1249 - after a short chase this Ju hit the water as well.

Thanks Mark for the details of the claims.
May I use this occasion to remind you my request for the Mosquito claim list for the month of October 1944 ? Thanks in advance |

Hi Laurent
The reason for not having these JU 88`s on my site is that I have seen no evidence ,other than the British claim, of the two losses. If you have seen any German report on the losses I would very much like to hear about it. Where is the info about IV./KG 30 from ? |

Re: 605 Sqn vs IV/KG 30, 21 September 1943
F/Lt. Blomeley og F/O Birrel.flying a Mosquito VI from No. 605 Squdron claims a Ju 88 at position 5740N0700E at 12.36 hrs and another one at 12.46 hrs at pos 5745N0830E.
IV./KG 30 did not loose any aircraft that day due to enemy action. It has not been possible to find out where the Ju 88s came from. |

I was suspecting that the lack of details about these two losses was a sign that there was no trace of them in German records, as was confirmed by Delmenhorst. Thanks to all that answered this thread. Soren, I use the occasion to congragulate you for your website, that is really useful to me. |
