Ju 88 D-1 4N+EH (W. Nr. 0881203) Restoration

Could someone please explain how all the 70/71 is gone, yet the codes(and presumably the crosses) are left and appear to have a nice sharp edge.

Question Re: Ju 88 D-1 4N+EH (W. Nr. 0881203) Restoration

I would risk being a chemical feature, maybe a different composition made the paint more resistent to wheather. In several photos is easily seen the markings being shinny/glossy in contrast with the flat camouflage color.

HI;

Thats easy to explain; where codes were painted you have more layers of paint (total of three: primer, camouflage and the code paint f.e. black); when two layers are gone - the topmost and one under it you see only the primer paint in those areas similar in shape to the codes, but bare metal where no codes were!

Re: Ju 88 D-1 4N+EH (W. Nr. 0881203) Restoration

These sources don't provide the info on the date of the crash-landing of the Ju 88C-4, WNr. 088 0797, code #4D+HA of KG 30. The "A" would indicate Gruppenstab. Does anyone know the date of the loss of this aircraft?

Thanks,

Larry Hickey

Hi Larry;

Never assume anything regarding the Luftwaffe, it might turn out wrong... Erprobungstaffel/KG 30 used
4D+_A and many codes are known. Here are all details I know, they could have been more: I sent this museum an E-mail once but they did´nt really care a proper answer...

W.Nr. 0880797 mfd March 1941
- Ju 88 A-5 [SK+QS] Luftwaffe
- Ju 88 C-2´ 4D+HA Erp.St./KG 30 (Luftflotte 5)
OPS (F) damaged by AA fire, force landed (70%) near Sandfjord at Nordkyn, Kinnarodden [Norway] 28.03.1942 (Staffelkapitän F Hptm. Cuno Gotthardt badly injured, B Oblt. Helmut Lütgens badly injured and BF Uffz. Willi Hillebrecht slightly inj) (rep as Ju 88 A5 797 in LWFLV losses) - Sold by Norwegian Government to <unk> locals after the war ended (1945) - Wreck was recovered in separate operations by RNoAF Museum to local storage site in Northern Norway in 1999 and 2000 - Then moved by ship transport to the RNoAF Museum at Bodö in 2001 - Stored in Bodö [2004]
[Note: W.Nr. 0880797 had C-4 type Zerstörer nosecap; code from SIG Luftwaffe Norway homepage]

JU88A-4 4D+DA W.Nr 1776, looking for crew details and date of loss.

Any help would be most appreciated.
