Ki-43-III colour photo

Who has a larger version of this photo? Photos of Ki-43-IIIs aren't too common, let alone colour ones.

PS. On the topic of Ki-43 pics, has anybody got a picture of the inside of the flap recess?

Re: Ki-43-III colour photo

Thanks for your help John!

Does anybody know any forums specialised in Japanese WW2 aircraft and Pacific war claims/losses, etc? TOCH is great for Luftwaffe stuff and western air war, but the Pacific side of the forum is running rather slow generally speaking. I hope that's a fair statement?

Mostly modelers questions, i.e. 'what color is the widget attached to the thiga-magiggi' type stuff, but when moderator Jim Lansdale and some of the real experts get going, pay attention. These gentlemen know their stuff and have some fascinating information - see JNAF msg board, bottom page too for a good example - OOB Philippines Sea.

Re: Ki-43-III colour photo

Thanks Jim. I already started posting there today, as I remembered that site the moment I made my post here

PS. Funny how almost everyone is called Jim...

PPS. Just realised it's the 61st anniversary of VJ-Day today.

The late Reverend Jeffrey Ethell was more than a aviation history writer, he flew a host of aircraft to learn first hand of the flight characteristics. He died in the crash of a P-38 on one such check flight. In his research, he gathered a HUGE collection of color photography from the crew chiefs and pilots from WWII and Korea.

Jeff's widow has made the slides into duplicate prints for sale. You may obtain a larger version of that photo direct from her.

Re: Ki-43-III colour photo

Hi David, I've already ordered Ethell's book "WW2 Pacific War Eagles" which also contains a copy of this photo. I didn't want to order a copy as it's relatively expensive and I merely want to have a better look at that picture The book will provide better value-for-money, I think, as I only paid a tenner for it.
I'm aware of Ethell's background. He was a very familiar face on the telly as well.
