Bann, Batt and Doe - 238 sqn . . .
Board and Jon,
With regard to Eric Bann, I checked the crews in 238 sqn for the BoB in the rear of Men of The Battle of Britain and found that Bob DOE and Gordon Batt will have flown with Bann. I have both their books, bios written in recent years but neither mention Bann. Batt does however sum up August 1940 as follows: "It was all go, there is no doubt we were stretched to our very limits, nearly every day we were on readiness" Jon, reading that and the part of Eric's letter you shared with us pretty much says it all. Always keeping a look-out for more. Best, Andy.

Thanks
Thanks Andy
I have read Batts book also and, was surprised at no mention of Sgt Bann also, especially when they were both in Yellow section! Certainly when i spoke with Mr Batt he had fond memories of Sgt Bann but in relation to alll Sgt Batts war he only knew Sgt Bann for a few months before he was killed. Thanks again Jon |
