Bf 109 Losses 13 Feb 44

Sqn Ldr Geoff Warnes of 263 Sqn claimed a Bf 109 over Chartres on the afternoon of the above date. He was the only RAF claimant this day while 360 & 361st FS claimed 5 x Fw 190 and a single Bf 109, most in the Chartres area. I have five Bf 109s lost by 6, 7 and 8./JG 2 Arpajon/Etampes//Paris vicinity (credited to P-47s) while JG 26 lost two Fw 190s (one of them near Abbeville) apparently to P-47s. Anyone have and suggestions to the 263 Sqn kill which was just off the airfield?

Perhaps this one:

13-2-1944 | 2./JG 105 | 1-2 km nordwestlich Chartres | Absturz infolge Bordwaffenbeschuß | Dewoitine D 520 | 654 | 90% damage | Uffz. Bartl, Rolf gefallen

Kind regards,
Timon

Yes, it would fit the combat report well, see note on the aircraft camouflage.

May I just point out that Fred Trendle in Point Blank Feb 1944 has already made that connection.

Thanks all. Guess what Flt Lt Gerry Racine shot up on the ground at Chartres was also from JG 105

In the article in Avions n°82 about the losses of second-line Luftwaffe units in France in February 1944, Warmes's claim is identified as the D520 from JG 105, while the author says that no trace of the three Bf 109 destroyed on the ground was found.
