He 219 W.Nr. 190188

Hello,

He 219 W.Nr. 190188 was reported as loss (shot down) in the night from 3 to 4 June 1944. I have some doubts that it was indeed 190188 that was shot down as a He 219 marked '188' was found at Eger after the end of the war.

Does anybody have the original loss report for the night 3 to 4 June 1944?

Ferguson(2020) indicates as source: "Tagesmeldungen 2.6.44 to 6.6.44 from Heinkel TAD Verbindungsstelle Venlo". Does anybody have that report?

Thank you.

Roger

Hi all

The right name for the crash place was "Wilhelminadorp" (Zeeland/NL).

best wishes

Correct Gall was buried in Goes (NL). I can confirm the werknummer from the NVM.

Re: He 219 W.Nr. 190188

Hi Matti, JoMe and John,

thank you for the information. Did the NVM mention both W.Nr. and St.Kz. or just the W.Nr.?

If both, I’d assume there was no typo, but if it was the W.Nr. only, I believe there was a typo. I am convinced the aircraft found at Eger after the war was 190188.

Thanks,

Roger

Nope, not the Stammkennzeichen (which normally is not on the NVM anyway).

Perhaps Marcel Hogenhuis can jump in, he probably knows.....

Re: He 219 W.Nr. 190188

Thank you John and Junker.

Is the information from the Heinkel archive based on a wartime document? Or maybe also based on the NVM?

I found several examples of 190xxx He 219s that had the full 6digit W.Nr. on the fuselage near the cockpit and the same style if 3 digit code on the stabilizers (last 3 digit if the serial number). One had only 3 digits on the nose, but their 190xxx number is confirmed by test documents.

The font style if the 3 digits in the tail is quite unique and I therefore assume all of these aircraft came from the same manufacturer and probably block. Later blocks usually had their full 6 digit number in the stabilizers.

I am therefore confident that the aircraft at Eger marked 188 was 190188.

Re: He 219 W.Nr. 190188

Thanks Junker. I assume NVM got their information also from Heinkel. It could still be that Heinkel made a mistake when reporting the serial number both internally and for the NVM. Unless an Allied intelligence report exists about the He 219s at Eger, which may contain the full serial number, we can not be 100% sure about its true identity.
