Re: US-bomber aircraft to ID

If the date was Oct. 7 1944 it could be 44-8046 (457BG) shot down by Flak on the mission to Politz (now Police in Poland) which is very near where the remains were found in a lagoon at Szczecin (Stettin) at the mouth of the Oder river.
The problem is it wasn't apparently named. I can't find the document Kris mentioned.
42-102502 came down near Stettin but the date is wrong; there's also a "Politz" near Lubeck, Germany. But this WAS a "Chatterbox".

see "www.notesfromPoland.com" and the 457th web-site "www.457thbombgroup.org". for info on 48046 loss.

Re: US-bomber aircraft to ID

The German report (image 33 on Rolland's MACR) lists 2102502 as "OJ-G" (should be "QJ-G") and the name as "CATERBOX" with a naked woman (?). The wreckage would be hard to identify. Crash was 1km S. of Hagen, 18kms NNW of Stettin at 1318. Date was certainly 25 Aug. not 7 Oct.

Regards
Nick
