W/O S. H. Balam of 501 Sqn.
Hoping to find more on this pilot, i.e. full name and service number. He was posted in to 501 Sqn. apparently in August 1944 when that squadron began operating Tempests at night against V-1s. Balam shot down a V-1 on the night of 17/18 Dec. 1944. When 501 was disbanded, Balam was posted to 126 Sqn. on 24 April 1945 (per 126 Sqn. ORB). There was a Stanley H. Balam born in 1922 in Edmonton, Middlesex (per FreeBMD). This seems a likely match, however I do not find a card for him in the AIR 78 files.

Tom,
A Sgt (pilot) S. H. BALAM, served on No.515 Squadron on Defiants before moving to 501 Squadron. He was involved in the following incident whilst at 515: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C18307337 Computer on the blink, can't chase up details! Col.
