Captain Thomas E. Cox, 371st Fighter Group
Would anyone know what squadron/group Capt. Thomas E. Cox (0-791076) served with prior to joining the 404th Fighter Squadron, 371st Fighter Group? Based on the number of Air Medals awarded, I believe he would have served with another combat unit before joining the 404th, already as a Captain, in September of 1944. He claimed a FW 190 destroyed on January 5, 1945 then left the squadron at his request just a few days later.

He appears as a 1st Lt. on a 1 Sep 1943 Morning Report with 85th FS/79th FG at Pallagonia L.G., Italy. On 17 Oct 1943 with same rank and squadron at Foggia #3.

Re: Captain Thomas E. Cox, 371st Fighter Group
It seems that prior to joining 371st FG he was in Texas during (at least) July 1944 with 2511th AAF Base Unit, Bryan, TX from where he was sent to Dale Mabry Field, Tallahassee, FL.
From there on 12 July 1944 to AAF Overseas Replacement Depot, Greensboro, NC for his next assignment. Leendert |
