No. 500 Squadron Anson, coded MK-W crash 31/5/40 .... names needed
During the early hours of the morning on 31 May 1940, at 01:15Hrs, Flight Lieutenant Richard Chambers was flying in a, returning from a patrol over the North Sea. Seated as the Wireless/Air gunner Operator. On the approach to RAF Detling, Kent, it is believed that the pilot, Flying Officer David Bond misjudged the airfield landing lighting, crashing into a nearby field.
The aircraft, carrying bombs, on impact one of these exploding causing a large explosion and a fire starting onboard, killing Richard instantly . Corporal Daphne Pearson, a WAAF medical orderly who was billeted in the nearby quarters rushed into the burning wreckage. Later awarded a George Cross. Two airmen survived, with slight injuries, these were Corporals F W Smith, G B S Petts. Can anyone please provide their first names? Thank you in advance. Danny

Re: No. 500 Squadron Anson, coded MK-W crash 31/5/40 .... names needed
According to CC Losses, crew was Fg Off R D C Chambers (+), Fg Off D E Bond (inj), Cpl Petts (uninj), LAC Fish (uninj). F540 would be clearer.
