Diary and Pictures of an RAAF Photographer at Port Moresby, New Guinea

I went ahead and purchased this as Irvine Green kept a personal diary while at Port Moresby during 1942. However I am a little concerned since (with the exception of the cover) the promotional material does not show any of Green's photos taken in New Guinea.

A Mouse at Moresby: A first-hand account of a World War II RAAF photographer in New Guinea
[Personal diary, letters & photographs]
(Big Sky Publishing - 6 October 2025)
by Irvine and Tony Green
272 pages - paperback (9.8" x 9.8")
$34.99 AU

"A Mouse at Moresby contains many previously unseen images of the struggle by Australian servicemen against the Japanese onslaught in New Guinea. Irvine Green’s collection of diaries, letters and images offers a firsthand view of World War II in New Guinea from 1941–1943 [30 December 1941 - 8 February 1943]. As an RAAF photographer, literally in the trenches, he captures the critical time when Port Moresby stood between the invading Japanese and the Australian mainland.

Written in real time by someone personally involved in the struggle, the day-to-day commentary in Irvine’s diaries and letters gives a unique and gripping narrative devoid of the foibles of memory or the influences of the passage of time. A must-read for anyone wanting to gain an understanding of the life of a young RAAF serviceman during the years of 1941 to 1945.

Compiled by his son, Dr Tony Green, this book honours Irvine’s remarkable archive. Together, father and son bring to life the story Irvine never had the chance to publish — until now."

‘Irvine Green didn’t just see the war — he showed it to us.’
