victory over Paul W Kallas 694251 Pilot KIA P-51 43-12383
Paul W Kallas 694251 Pilot KIA P-51 43-12383 (354th Fighter Group 355th Fighter Squadron) enemy fighter crashed 0,5 km of Goeddeckenrode Gr. +/- 11:30 29-04-1944. Buried Goeddeckenrode Gr. 30-04-1944 MACR 4434 J-976
Extract from MACR: "A two ship formation on the left and a single on the right. Just as I saw this I saw the first ship of the two ship flight do a double snap and spin down. The second ship followed him. They were quite a distance ahead of us when we came out of the 360° so I couldn’t tell which was which. As I saw it, I thought a 51 had come in and beavered the 109 that just past us. About 3 minutes GQ-M, P-51, joined us. It wasn’t until I landed that I found out that GQ-M was Lt. Davis and he had lost his wingman. This must have been him I saw get shot." So it was Kallas who spun down, followed by one of the Bf 109 of the Rotte. Who claimed? I hope i do not bore you all with these questions btw. |

Hard one as from what I can see only two P-51s meet that time and have a location-Hildeheim and Braunchweig-Waggum. There are another 5 apparent claims with no time or location

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....pictureid=1999 Chris is right. There are two claims for "Mustangs" on 29 April 1944 in RL 5/1449: The first is of Ofhr. Grill of Stab II./JG 11 at 11.20 hrs. over Hildesheim at 5000 m. Hildesheim is 62 km NW of Goeddeckenrode. The second is of Oblt. Heinz Knoke of 5./JG 11 between 11.50 and 12.00 hrs. over Fl. Pl. Braunschweig at 40 m. Brunswick is 35 km N. of Goeddeckenrode. According to Michael Balss and the authors of OKL Fighter Claims there were further claims by JG 11 on this day from another source. |

Crash location or pilot baling out but 35km is quite a distance. The trouble is there are loads of claims with no time or location

On cruise speed 3min plus. Emergency power flying on the limit would be much faster.
But indeed not clear cut. |
