Re: 479th Fighter Group history/Terry Fairfield (Schiffer)

Considering the relatively short time that the 479 FG was in action, there is a lot of material in this thick 502-page unit history. Chapters cover unit's formation, deployment, and monthly activity, with appendices of COs, unit identifications, unit insignias, pilot roster, assigned aircraft (pilot, plane type, nickname, squadron, s/n, and comments), victory list, pilot losses, and crew chiefs. Typical Schiffer treatment, well illustrated with lots of rare photos spread throughout text and color profile illustrations of 16 P-38s and P-51s. I haven't read it yet (bought it last year so I could have Robin Olds sign it) but it looks to be a thorough account of the 479th.

Yes, lots, from after-action reports and letters (some recently)
