Re: Photos 2-28
Were there any Fairey Battles left that weren't shot down over France? Why would the RAF keep sending these crews to their doom? This aircraft should receive the prize for most photographed wreckage.

Re: Photos 2-28
Bruce, couldn't agree more! I am convinced, after having browsed Ed's listings for some time, that EVERY fairey Battle that went down in France was photographed! At least once.
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=120092323637 This one is very interesting to me. Seems to be a Fieseler-built Bf 109E-8 (haven't got my records here so must check later), KD+EH. Note the Fieseler trademark, the all black area around the exhausts, also seen on the Bf 109T. The light spotted mottling on the cowling is also typical for these Fieseler-built machines and were also seen on the Toni. K+EH seems to have been just delivered to a unit in the field. Kjetil |

Re: Photos 2-28
Yes, the Fairey Battle is well covered - And most often called everything else than Fairey Battle at Ebay, "British fighter, Belgian......, French......" etc etc - But on the other hand I saw some Ju 87 picture pass as "German fighter" above.
Several of the photos at Ebay are obviously taken out of an album and sold piecemal. A pity as several are from a series of pictures and/or taken out of a larger context which adds information, making the collection more valuable than the sum of the individual photos. Selling these photos without their background is like selling archeological objects which have been excavated without scientific documentation and then exhibited without comments. Luckily several have memory notes on the backside regarding location, dates and names. Sometimes I wish these interesting pictures could be made to speak and tell the story. However, the few who can tell where, what and when it happened are soon gone or have sadly already left us..... |
