Damage to Treverrack on 29.12.1940
Hello friends,
I have a question about the damage of merchant ship Treverrack (5270 BRT) on 29.12.1940 nw of Tory Island: -was she attacked by FW 200?, -in which convoy did she sail? (SLS 58?). Thank you Darius |

Re: Damage to Treverrack on 29.12.1940
Always worth googling the name of a ship ...
This site http://www.clydesite.co.uk/clydebuil...ip.asp?id=5508 mentions that she was damaged by aircraft on 13 March 1941 and this one that on 8 June 1941 she was torpedoed and sunk by U-46 at 48.46N 29.14W on a voyage from Glasgow to Montreal. Nothing on your incident though. |

Thank you Nick,
my source was KTB Skl. for Dezember 1940: "...gegen 1130 Uhr Angriff gegen Konvoi SLS 58 (?) nw Tory Island, dabei Df Treverrack beschädigt... " (this is not a quote) Lloyd´s War Losses give the position of the attack as 53.25n03.45w Greetings Darius |

Re: Damage to Treverrack on 29.12.1940
Hello Darius
The "Trevarrack" was attacked by a Condor at 11.25 a.m , 200 km NW of Londonderry, with 2 SC 250 of which 1 hit mid -ship. The hit caused a big explosion( motor ?), 30 ° listing after 1 min. Ship's loss was annouced as probable by the crew. Hope this helps Regards Marc PS : Darius, didn't you ask for a combat report last Week ? If so please let me know your PM |

Re: Damage to Treverrack on 29.12.1940
According to the book 'Scourge of the Atlantic' by Kenneth Poolman the TREVARRACK was part of the unescorted SLS58 when attacked.

Re: Damage to Treverrack on 29.12.1940
Hello,
Naval History.net has the following "Steamer TREVARRACK (5270grt), straggling from convoy SLS.58, was damaged by German bombing in 55‑34N, 09‑30W. Destroyers HIGHLANDER and HARVESTER went to her assistance." While www.wrecksite.eu provides details of the ship and its June sinking. And www.theshiplist.com provides details of the owners and their other ships.
