Mysterious (?) Tiffie

While this Typhoon loss probably is no big deal for anyone with deeper knowledge on RAF issues, it causes me some trouble.

I do see a YP code, which would mean No. 23 Sqn according to my refs., which should have operated Mosquitoes at the time.... Only Typhoon loss recorded for August 29th, 1944 in 2nd TAF is a No. 197 Sqn a/c, which would not fit either, since it should have had an OV code.

Location is between Therdonne and Laversines, Beauvais area, Northern France.

Any help on details of this loss would be highly appreciated!

Thanks for taking care

Matthias Radu

Hi Matthias,

The Squadron code is most probably XP for No.174 Sqn.

Re: Mysterious (?) Tiffie

Hi Michal,

many thanks for the quick reply. According to my sources, MN608 was lost on 31st instead of 29th, would the former be correct?

Matthias

Hi,

Looks like it might be XP-D, MN608 of F/Lt R.H.F.Irwin who force landed near Albert on the31st August 44.
