Re: Photos 7-21

Can anyone identify the location name on the back of this photo:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=150142051042

"Bei xxxxxxx
Eine Messerschmitt M 109 notgelandet"

I have tried some variants (Grouellisses, Gnavellisses, and so on...) at google, but I cant get a hit. For me it looks like a french coast scenery?!

David,

it means "Gravellinnes". IMHO a typo, the correct name should be Gravelines (F59820).

Running dog emblem is JG 141, later I. and II. Gruppen of ZG 1. The emblem was designed by Richard Marchfelder, who was with JG 141, II./ZG 1, then III./ZG 76, being shot down and becoming a PoW during the Battle of Britain. How do I know he designed the emblem? From the man himself. He also designed the famous 'Wespe' emblem. Here I am with him at one of the Wespentreffen during the late 1980s.:

Re: Photos 7-21

Thanks for correction John! I relied on Ketley and Rolfe, Luftwaffe Embleme 1939-1945, Bernard & Graefe Verlag.

Any more info on this Bf 109 with this emblem to share?????
