Arrow Ju-88 NJG 3 crash in Belgium

On 26/12/1944 Ju-88 G-1 from 11./NJG 3 D5+AM was lost near Weyler Belgium due to flak at around 23.00 hrs. It seems that the crew bailed out , one of them Uffz Kraus Otto became POW. Who were the other crewmembers and what happened with them ?

Re: Ju-88 NJG 3 crash in Belgium

Seems to be a difficult case, Kraus was wounded in febr.44 he flew for 5.NJG3 so something like D5+.N, but for the 26 or 27 I don't find anything, what is the source ???

Re: Ju-88 NJG 3 crash in Belgium

Seems to me a mix up of several details. He did not belong to 11. Staffel but to II. Gruppe. This is what the NVM reports;

27/28.12.1944, Ju 88G-1, WNr. 714649, D5+??, 4./NJG 3.
Fallschirmabsprung nach Feindeinsatz NNW Trier.
Uffz. Otto Kraus, geb. 28.05.1921, vermisst.

ADI(K) Report No. 26/1945 reports Uffz. Otto Kraus as POW near Weyler.., Luxembourg at 23.00 hrs. Take of was at 21.00 hrs from Husum. Uffz. Kraus, the Bordfunker, opened the escape hatch by accident during the pull out of a steep dive. The a/c returned to base. Other loss lists suggests that Fw. Rupp was the FF and Uffz. Hans Eckert the BM. The a/c code was ineed D5+AM.

Therefore NO crash.

cheers,

John.

Very interesting. I have two entries in flight logbooks (Grundke and Osterwald) for the 714649 at Bernburg in February 1945 – as a Mistel (Nero 22). Ultimate fate unknown.

Regards Peter
