60 SAAF Squadron information please
Please could someone inform me, if:
1- Any pilots or navigators of 60 SAAF Squadron ( PR duties with Marylands and Mosquitos ) were awarded the DSO? 2- The names of the OC ( Officers Commanding ) of this Squadron during WW2 period? Glad in advance. Adriano PS: It is very hard to find any information about this Squadron´s activities around the Mediterranean on the net. Someone does know any special site about 60 SAAF History? |

Hi Adriano.
I have contacted one of the 60 sqn vets to see if he knows if someone got a DSO via email. Will get back to you when he answers. Stefaan

Re: 60 SAAF Squadron information please
Stefaan, Kaki and Fairlop,
Thanks for both of you for sharing those information with me. I do have a tremendous admiration for the De Havilland Mosquito, and particularly the PRU activities undertaken by those machines. I do know from Military books that 60 SAAF Squadron was a KEY Squadron on PR activities around the Mediterranean; but there are very few information about their missions on books. Stefaan, do you know if there is a 60 SAAF Squadron´s Association that we could contact? I was a former member of the Mosquito Aircrew Association in the UK. I do not remember seeing SAAF members there ( had to check the Association membership list, memory playing tricks....). I do remember reading 60 SAAF Squadron members being awarded the DFC or BAR to DFC,but never read about a DSO. Will have to check it. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with me. Sincere and friendly yours Adriano Brazil |

Re: 60 SAAF Squadron information please
Hi Adriano.
There is no 60 sqn association. There are only 4 pilots alive that flew with 60 sqn during WWII. Of those only 2 are prepared to talk, the others are a definite no no.I have started to collect data on a book on 60 sqn during WWII. Just finished one on 15 sqn, so will take me a while. What are you doing with the gen?? A book?? There is a serious shortage of 60 sqn Mossies photo's around. I found that PR sqns have the least amount of photo's available, probably because their MP's would have been very strict about any photo's lying around.. Get me at my email stefaan@surgeon.co.za ofline if you want Stefaan
