Loss of 1./KG27 He111 at "Luere Vogesen" France 17.7.40

Hello,

I am coding into a data base two photos of plane wreckage in a forrest that is captioned on the back that it is a He111 of 1./KG27 which crashed at "Luere Vogesen" on 17.7.40. In consulting with the "Battle of Britain: Then and Now." I find a listing that matches this with the place listed as "Luere-Vogesen." I find places in France named Luere and ones named Vegesen, but they don't seem near each other. Can anyone tell me where this is supposed to be? The caption provides new information that this was aircraft 1G+DH.

Further analysis of this loss indicates that this crash took place on 14.07.40, and that it occurred in "the Vogesen" (meaning unknown, apparently not a village) about 7.6 km east of Servance, in France-Comté, France. The crew was apparently buried at the town of Lure several kms to the SW on 19.07.40. The Luftwaffe QM report of the loss on July 17th apparently is in error. Walter Waiss, in his KG27 book, Vol II, lists the full name of this crew and provides the location. Does anyone know what the word "Vogesen" means in this context? Is it a place or the name of a type of terrain? The crash photos indicate that it took place in heavy woods.

Vogesen is as far as I know the German traduction of the French word "Vosges", that is the name of the montain range in the east of France, between Lorraine and Alsace.

The crash location is right into this mountain range.

'Vogesen' is the German translation for 'Vosges' in French.
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vosges_Mountains) gives the following information :

The crash place occurred on the "Ballon de Servance" (Ballon is the name of the mountains in that area)

Caution my friend. Both the GQM & NVM independently state 17 July 1940 for this loss as do VDK burial records.

Luere, is in fact certainly Lure, seated quite south of the Vosges

the crash is given 7.5 km ostw. Servance, the date quoted 17. july

where come from the 14.th ???
