S.A. Gr. 128 FW-190 markings?

Hi

Further to my query about 341 sqn, can anyone tell me what markings were carried by S.A. Gr. 128's FW-190s based at Brest? I know they carried the codes 6W+**, but can anyone add any further info? I've had a good look for any photos, but the closest I could find was a flight-sim skin, which had codes 6W+BH and 6W+DH, both with a white tail band. I guess they were a lesser-known unit, so perhaps not captured on film...unless you know different of course!

I also saw reference to the book 'Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe Teil 10/IV' which has details and perhaps photos of this unit, but it's slightly out of my price range (to say the least ). Does anyone have a copy on their shelf?

Once again, many thanks.

Simon

Andrew Arthy has written a piece about the unit on his website: http://fw190.hobbyvista.com/

I wrote this brief item about the unit when it was 10./ZG 1 and using fighter markings.

Hi Nick

Many thanks for the reply, and the two links.

I had seen Andrew Arthy's article before, but I've just dropped him an e-mail asking if he has any further info.

Regards

Simon

As far as I am aware, no photos of 1/128's FW 190s have come to light and irritatingly, they only reported the ac variant and Wk Nr

Chris

Thanks for the message. I had a feeling this may well indeed prove to be the case, but you never know, something may turn up...

Simon

Re: S.A. Gr. 128 FW-190 markings?

Gentlemen,

I have only one rather poor photo of a Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A that belonged to 1./SAGr. 128 - the caption says Jagdkommando Brest - which carries a black numeral 10 outlined in white in fighter style, i.e. on the fuselage side in front of the Balkenkreuz. It is of course not enough to be certain about the markings of 1./SAGr. 128 but it gives a lead.

Hope this helps

Regards

Hello Jochen

Many thanks for posting your reply - very interesting!

Is the photo from a book or magazine? Or is it an actual original photo?

And does the FW-190 have the white fuselage band I mentioned in my earlier post?

Regards

Simon

Re: S.A. Gr. 128 FW-190 markings?

Dear Simon,

it is a reproduction from an original photo and shows only the center part of the a/c, i.e. from the rear part of the engine cowling to the numeral in front of the Balkenkreuz; therefore I cannot say whether or not there was a white fuselage band. Sorry.

Hello again Jochen

That's a shame. Thought we might be getting close there!

Thanks for the extra information though.

Regards

Simon
