Hurricane MK I - First Batch "L" Series

Hi All,

I've aquired an Interest in the Hurricane, and was wandering if anyone out there can point me in the right direction for the following :-

1. Which A/C from the 1st batch were converted to Sea Hurricanes.
2. Which A/C from the 1st batch were converted to MK II's
3. Which A/C from the 1st batch were Instructional/aintenance Airframes.

Many thanks in advance.

Rich

Re: Hurricane MK I - First Batch "L" Series

Hello Rich,

Try to get hold of Air Britains "Royal Air Force Aircraft L1000 - N9999" .

1st Batch were 600 aircraft , Hawker built, deliveries commenced on 15th December 1937 and completed on 6th October 1939, approx one aircraft a day.

Around 70 became instructional . A dozen or so were converted to Mk.II and received new numbers in the DA-DZ series DG range.
Sea Hurricanes about a dozen can be found in another of Air Britains Publications, "Fleet Air Arm Aircraft 1939 to 1945" as well as in the "L" series book.
Others were used by South Africa, Yugoslavia, Canada,Rumania, Belgium,Poland,Persia,Turkey.
All the best
Alex

Hurricane L2048 ordered by Poland in fact was sent to Poland but never got there as it was to late. Others, previously build for Poland, finally were delivered to Finland.
