Ju 88 (A-5?) W.Nr. 088 0597

Hello,

Does anybody have information about Ju 88 (A-5?) 088 0597? The number is painted onto the body of a Revi C/12D gunsight.

Many thanks,

Roger

Hello Roger,
for this WNr. 0597 I only have that is was manufactured in Bernburg in Nov 1940 as a A-5 and had the Skz. SH+OU.

Norbert

Re: Ju 88 (A-5?) W.Nr. 088 0597

Hello Norbert,

Thank you very much! Interesting.

www.stammkennzeichen.de/ indicates for SZ+OU Ju 88 A-4 and in February 1941 it was apparently operated by Flugzeugfuehrerschule C11. The W.Nr. matches, however, 597 (I was looking for 0597 initially and missed the entry for 597).

From other W.Nr. close to 597, I would also say it was an A-5 rather than an A-4.

Regards,
Roger

Hi Roger,

I came across several errors in the stammkennzeich.de database. I think sometimes they project possible Werknummern with Stammkennzeichen and visa versa. Unfortunately they do not reveal their source for the entry. I think this discussion was once adressed by them and they basically stated that either you trust the entry or do not use it. This is too bad but it is what it is.

Regards,

Norbert

Re: Ju 88 (A-5?) W.Nr. 088 0597

If from Feb-41, unless from one of the testing facilities, the sub-type is likely a Ju 88A-5 or A-1. The Ju 88A-4 doesn't start showing up in losses with any consistency until Jun-41. The very first I have is from late May from KüFlGr. 506, though the WNr. 0738 would suggest a D-2 model?
