Re: Various Lw losses

Thanks again, Matti

Do we know if any of these were victims of friendly fire?

Cheers

Re: Various Lw losses

Hi Guy

Schmetzer I believe was shot down in combat with Allied aircraft, not flak.

Re: Various Lw losses

Matti,

For the Ju 88 B3+DT I have WNr 140148 and the names of FF & BO as Gertjejansen (with one s) and Brand (without a t). Which ones are correct?

Regards,
Rudi.

Re: Various Lw losses

My info comes from NVM. The names are same also in DRK Vermisstenbildliste (page LH 591), so they are possibly correct.
141148 is questionable, because same WNr is also reported by 6./KG 54 destroyed 14 March 1943. However, there is also with 140148 a problem, because Ju 88A-4, 0148 was destroyed 21 Sept 1943 (E-KGr. Ju 88/Gen.d.Fl.Ausb.). This WNr could be 140148, 300148 or 550148. 300148 was destroyed 1 Dec 1943 and 550148 had a minor accident 19 Niv 1943. Based on that we could presume, that 140148 is also not correct. Maybe someone has better info to confirm correct WNr.

Matti

Re: Various Lw losses

Nice info, but probably could be subject for lengthy debate. I can only give my feeling for part of this, not proof.

"141148" B3+DT first was reported "1411" in GQM lists. This seemingly does not fit - (088)1411 already lost - but 140148 has prior (small) damage with III/KG 54. This (1411) was then amended 141148, but conflicting with yet other of II/KG 54!

So maybe it was 140148 B3+DT (?)

But them another GQM loss "0148" enters. Problem is interpretating which "0148" is correct one. "This WNr could be 140148, 300148 or 550148." (Matti)

I rule out 300148 and 550148. Both have later info/other references (or probably not yet in service in March 43).

Regarding 0148 loss in Greece (Einsatz Kampfgruppe Ju 88 / General der Flieger Ausbildung) this is valid (could be ex-LG 1 "0148/L1+HM; 0148/L1+AM" known from one logbook a little earlier) but yet suspect, as if 140148 B3+DT (from Brian/Rudi) is correct, this "corrects" two entries in GQM listings (!) and leaves only (one) "0148" in Greece still out unexplained.

It might still have explanation, coming from repair and having "spare fuselage" or wrong (fuselage) number reported as its "W.Nr.".

Other similar cases are known from "duplicates" in GQM losses and some (rather many) involve cases where only "last four" are reported. But one has to live with not knowing all.

Regards
Ed
