Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Good evening Gents,
today's haul showed up quite interesting pictures. I have here two nuts to crack: 1. http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream If I'm correct, "RT+.U?" is an Erla produced Bf 109 G-6 with tall tail unit. Any clue as to which W.Nr.? I checked Peter van gogh's great Stammkennzeichen page, but to no avail: no Bf 109's are known to have sported the "RT+.." Stkz. 2. http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream This one is tougher, owing also to the low res scan. For my eyes, it looks definitely like a Bf 109 G-10 (two small chin bulges denoting a DB 605 D); any idea as to which unit and where?. May I remind you of a third one I posted in the late war Bf 109 thread a while ago? http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream According to Prien and Rodeike 1995, III./JG 1, I./JG 5 and II./JG 11 were the first to be equipped with this subtype. I would be most interested into identifying unit and place. Thanks in advance Marc |

Re: Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Hi Marc
The RT+U_ block were Bf 109G-8 (see http://www.stammkennzeichen.de/). This one would seem to be RT+UU. All the best Ian |

Re: Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Hello,
Hmmm 1/ Marc wrote RT+.U? (dot for missing letter), not RT+U? 2/ Given the the black triangle behind man's shoulder doesn't seem to be another U but an X, a V or, eventually, a T. I did start a thread about this one, month ago, in TOCH (doesn't mean I know and doesn't mean I did find something more) ... But I'm still thinking that White 27 style on cowling points to a Finland AF plane. A G-8? No way, whatever. I think there is too much "full-complete-stkz-batch" in Bert site. And only one - if ever confirmed - doesn't mean the serie is complete. But, of course, I can be wrong .Cheers, Franck. |

Re: Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Well, the aircraft sports the typical ERLA camouflage from 1944, and ERLA didn't build G-8s AFAIR...

Re: Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Point taken, Franck and the_ivan! I reverted it to its Erla built G-6 status...
Thanks for your help Marc |

Re: Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Hello Guys,
Back on RT+?U. A possible link with that one? (White number on nose) Another Erla, isn't it? http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream Tschüss, Franck. |

Re: Two late Bf 109 to identify:
Yep, Erla for sure, but I can't see any identifying feature to call it a G-5. G-6 it's more likely.
