Hi
Trying to find more information on this pilot. Think I have tried before without much success. Does not seem to be much on him. Seems he was a long serving memeber of JG54 is the same pilot? 25/08/1942 Ltn. Gröne 4 JG 54 Claimed a Yak -1 April 1944 - Oblt Josef Gröne, the ‘Technische Officer’ of Stab IV/JG54, crash landed at Dorpat and was injured in his Bf109 G-6 W.Nr411260 He is believe to have survived WWII. Could really do with finding anything more on him, whether he survived, DOB and where he came from etc. regards Mark |

Re: Any info on Oblt Josef Gröne of JG54
Hi
Gröne was born on 1st December 1918. In late 1942 he did a stint as a trainer with Jgr.Drontheim, later with erg./Jgr.Ost. On 13th April 1943 he was shot down and wounded, his Bf109 coming down over Derpat, Russia. In October 1943 he became Technical Officer to IV./Jg54. On 16th February 1945 he transfered to Jg5. Last rank I have for him was Oberleutnant. He made two claims as a Leutnant with 4./Jg54:- 25th August 1942 Jak-1 0930 hrs Nr.1 16th January 1943 Pe-2 1240 hrs 2000 metres altitude Nr.2 Sorry, but I have no date of death for him. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Any info on Oblt Josef Gröne of JG54
Hi Johannes,
Is this correct? "On 13th April 1943 he was shot down and wounded, his Bf109 coming down over Derpat, Russia". Or do you mean 13th April 1944? I believe he survived WWII and if he transferred to JG5 I would hope there might be more information on him. Need to do a bit more digging. Thanks for your help. regards Mark |

Re: Any info on Oblt Josef Gröne of JG54
Thanks Larry,
Will speak to Axel Urbanke to see if he ever found him when he was researching JG54/JG26 for his D-9 books as well as our Norwegian friends who might know a bit more regarding JG5 and the surrender in Norway. regards Mark |
