Re: Forthcoming books from Chris Shores
Yes NickM, you are getting ahead of yourself. At the Duxford Air Show, John Davies (Grub Street publisher) said, after checking with Chris and Giovanni, that he hoped that Volume 2 would be available at the corresponding Air Show in 2013. I think this is pushing it a bit; Chris seems to think it is doable. I might note that Volume 2 will cover the period February 1942 to March 1943 in the Eighth Army area (ie, Egypt, Libya, southern Tunisia), to the time when they met the Allied armies advancing from the West (which advance will be covered in Volume 3, which will go to May 1943). I will be handling the US (USAAF, USN) aspects of these and subsequent volumes, which is relatively small in Volume 2. I can add that we will endeavor to match John's plan, but it is only now starting to meet the enemy.

Re: Forthcoming books from Chris Shores
I am not sure what to say at this point. Chris continues to write, and go to the NA/PRO when he accumulates sufficient questions to research. Giovanni continues to write, and research at the Italian AF archives. I continue to write, and go to the National Archives in College Park monthly. Winfried and Russell write and research, fitting that in around their jobs and other research.
When will it be done? It will be done when we decide that we have finished reviewing all the evidence we are aware of. The hope is to turn in the finished manuscript in the Spring. And immediately start work on Volume 3 (Torch to mid-May 1943), while also captioning pictures and preparing the index to Volume 2. Just another book to wait for, like volume 6 of George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, Patrick Rothfuss' volume 3 of The Kingkiller Chronicles, and volume 4b of Donald Knuth's Art of Computer Programming. Frank
While I enjoy a book of fantasy now and then, I must say that Vol 2 of the Med Air War is much more anticipated by me than Knuth's Art of Computer Programming, and that goes regardless of volume.... ![]() Perhaps my taste of Art is not subtle enough.... ![]() Cheers Stig |

Re: Forthcoming books from Chris Shores
Stig,
I would anticipate that the Med Air War team will get volumes 2 and 3 published before Knuth gets his volume 4B published. Those two will also probably be published before Martin's sixth volume of Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones for those who only know the HBO series), and Rothfuss' third and final volume (he swears!) of Kingkiller Chronicles. But none of us are in a race; all of these books will be published when their author's decide that they are completed to their satisfaction. Chris is as adament that MAW will be done right as are George, Pat, and Don with respect to their books. And thank you for your very kind words. Enjoy! Frank.

Re: Forthcoming books from Chris Shores
Thanks Frank
As you no doubt realise my interest in computer programming is bordering to zero, although I am deff very happy I am no archtype in that respect. I am one of those lucky persons whose aviation interest took a different turn thanks to Chris and his Fighters over the Desert. I have enjoyed the new Vol 1 of MAW immensely. It belongs to one of those books you hold a couple of seconds extra before you open it.... ![]() Cheers Stig |
