Wolfgang Falck

I read everywhere that Wolfgang Falck was appointed Kdr I./ZG 1 on 19.02.40, but all his first victories were scored with I./ZG 76, including his 7th on 09.04.40 during "Weserübung".
Can aynone help me to sort this out?
Thanx in advance and Happy New Year to you all.

Re: Wolfgang Falck

Chris

In his own biography Falck says he was promoted to command I./ZG 1 in January 1941. He does not state any exact day, but it has to be post Jan 10th, since he writes about that victory while still with ZG 76, which means his 6th victory on Feb 17th must have been with ZG 1. Strangely enough he does not mention this victory in the text, at least not in the English edition.

Conclusion is, 5 victories ZG 76 and 2 victories ZG 1

Cheers
Stig

Re: Wolfgang Falck

Junker: Thanks, I know this outstanding and most helpful work. However, some details are yet to be corrected.

Stig: both his 6th and 7th "kills" are recorded with Stab/ZG 76.
See Tony Holmes files.
(I assume you meant January 1940 and not 1941)

Re: Wolfgang Falck

Hello all,

I have an unpublished history of the 'zehnjährige Geschichte der I./NJG 1', written in 1945 by its former Waffeninspektor Stahn and it describes the developement from I./ZG 141 to I./NJG 1. Must still check it, but the appointment of Falck as Gruppenkdr. I./ZG 1 before Weserübung is correct in my recollection.

All the best, Marcel
(airfield Venlo and I./NJG 1 researcher)

Re: Wolfgang Falck

Thansk to all.
I guess the caption "ZG 76" was erroneous. It also happens even in the Luftwaffe...

Re: Wolfgang Falck

I spoke to Falck a couple of times in the 90'ies about the attack on Vaerloese i April 1940. He was at that time CO I./ZG 1 - no doubt about it
