Michael: Definitely KG 1 as one can see V4 on the photo. Aircraft is complete by the way

Re: KG 1 Crash landing 1940
Hi Chris,
I have one near Arras on 25-Oct-40 of II./KG 1 a He 111 H-2 WNr. 5325 due to fuel starvation. This is the closest I have for KG 1 to the location you mentioned. Regards, Norbert |

Re: KG 1 Crash landing 1940
Cris,
I have two photos of this one in the EoE DB. My caption says V4+JL? down in May or June, 1940. Haven't tried to match this one up, so I'm very interested in identifying this one as well. Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Re: KG 1 Crash landing 1940
My photo just shows V4+ and part of the individual letter which appears to be black not white or yellow. Aircraft is complete and appears to have suffered fighter damage

Re: KG 1 Crash landing 1940
Larry/Chris...
Larry, the first image below, from the left, is V4+J?, but I think it carries the 3./KG1 'Eagle and Lion' insignia on the forward fuselage under the canopy glazing. I think we see the top, rear edges of the eagle's wings. Not sure if this is the one you were referring to, but I included it in case you've not seen it before. Chris, From your description of "the individual letter which appears to be black not white or yellow. Aircraft is complete and appears to have suffered fighter damage", I have a set showing V4+KL which might match the description and have included a few of the clearer ones below. I should add that the source website for this image gives the location as Beaumont, but not sure how reliable that might be. Hope this helps, or adds interesting confusion, as the case may be! Regards, Paul NB: source of all images are expired e-bay auctions. Last edited by obdl3945; 25th September 2013 at 03:16. |

Re: KG 1 Crash landing 1940
Hello,
I believe that Chris Simmonds has this right. There were apparently at least two a/c of 3./KG1 that FL intact during the WC. One appears to have been V4+JL, the first photo that Chris posted (and Chris Goss asked about), and the second the well-photographed V4+KL. The latter was an H-3, W.Nr. unknown, that FL at "Waremme" near Leugnies-Grandieu SW of Beaumont, Wallonie, Belgium, on May 10, 1940, with Obfw Otto Odenbach POW. I have no further details on V4+JL other than it apparently also FL during the WC/FC. Does anyone have further photos of that a/c that would confirm the codes, and hopefully help lead us to the date and location? Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Re: KG 1 Crash landing 1940
The first photo is the one I have. Does the 8 June 40 loss fit?
