how did Herbert Waschk obtain the Deutsche Kreuz ?

Ofw Herbert Waschk ( Oberfeldwebel, born 19 01 17 in Bochum Gerte) got the German Cross on 5 Nov 1942 when at 7./KG 76.

He
died later on He111 Wnr 00070 of Erprobungstelle Süd near Millau in South of France.

Does somebody know the reasons why he obtained such cross and the background ?

Thanks

GC

Like the majority, it was unlikely that he was awarded it for a specific action but more likely continuous operations. Likewise the Ehrenpokal which he was awarded on 11 May 42. There were a number from 7/KG 76 awarded around the same time-Oblt Gerhard Maak (F) (10 Nov 42) Ofw Ernst Pütz (17 Nov 42)

Details on his awards are easily accessible if you have the right material; interested as to where the photo of him came from

Hi Chris

I forgot to answer you on that one: we managed to obtain his picture thanks to contacts with the family of H. Waschk.

We expect exchanges with them in the near future about that story. I'll keep you informed;
